Historical Cruises
We are offering five distinct mid-week trips with the flexibility to vary the itinerary for a given group.
The standard trips are:
- Tour 1 - The Sunset Historical Cruise - From the comfort of our Coast Guard inspected vessel your group sails slowly westbound along Fire Island on Great South Bay. From Sailors Haven/Sunken Forest to the Fire Island Lighthouse you will receive historical commentary as you pass by the communities of Oakleyville, Point O' Woods, Ocean Bay Park, Seaview, Ocean Beach, Atlantique, Lonelyville, Dunewood, Fair Harbor, Saltaire and Kismet.
- Tour 2 - The Summer Evening Lighthouse Tour - Leave the dock at Sayville for a leisurely run across Great South Bay to one of Long Island's best known landmarks...The Fire Island Lighthouse. Here, the friendly and knowledgeable staff will give your group a guided tour of the lighthouse, the exhibits and the adjacent grounds.
- Tour 3 - The Eastern Sail - Journey across Great South Bay to the heart of Fire Island and sail then eastbound to learn about the island's extraordinary history. Sail by Cherry Grove, The Fire Island Pines, Talisman/Barrett Beach, Water Island, Davis Park and The National Seashore at Watch Hill. Learn about Fire Island's storied past.
- Tour 4 - Historical Day on the Bay Tour - Park your cars or buses in the morning at the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville. Your group will take the guided tour through the museum's historic buildings on 14 acres of majestic views. Then, step aboard one of our clean and comfortable vessels for a sail across the Great South Bay to the Fire Island Lighthouse. Your group will then tour this symbol of Long Island's nautical past. Return, by boat - tired but happy - to the museum and the journey home.
- Tour 5 - The North Bay Scenic Tour - Explore the historical coast of main land Long Island and Great South Bay from Hecksher State Park to Patchogue Bay with great views from our modern vessels. Rich in historical commentary.
The above trips can be up to four hours long from start to finish. Our standard fee for a group trip is $21 per person for groups of fifty (our minimum) or more, and $17 per person for groups of 75 or more. Remember, too, that we can custom-build an outing with additional features. Consider a light picnic onboard or a seashore dinner at a Fire Island restaurant. Maybe a stop at Sailors Haven for dessert and coffee or a clambake on the beach? Whatever you choose, remember we park your group's cars and buses for free.
We here at Sayville Ferry are ready to make your trip a success.
